A couple months ago, a small camera crew from North Carolina came and spent a couple of days at our farm filming some of our story and life. It was for an episode of a new series my friend Justin Rhodes is producing called "Divergence" that he has been creating for the Abundance+ video app he launched last year. The series is based on one of my favorite poems from Robert Frost...
"...two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference".
Each episode is a short documentary about how someone's life has 'diverged' from the path that most people take, and how choosing that 'path less traveled' has made all the difference in their lives.
I agreed to be part of the series for a few reasons. First off, I loved the idea and Justin is not only a friend of mine, he's also a forward-thinker and storyteller and very smart at what he does. And I also because I had seen the first two episodes that Ben Roberts (the filmmaker who was making the series) had done, and was a big fan of his work and I wanted to see what he and the guys he brought with him might create.
A few weeks ago when Ben emailed me the 45 minute piece they'd made, I pretty much cried the whole way through it. Good tears...yes, filled with some of the heartache we have experienced, but mostly the incredible hope that continues to shine through, that is bigger than the hurt. I have since watched it a few times and I think it's a pretty incredible piece of filmmaking and I'm honored that they took the time to capture a portion of our story and put it together in such a beautiful, profound way. My whole family has watched it and they were all moved just much as I was. So I've been looking forward to sharing it with others.
